Grouping your professional products by brand or type is essential for managing your salon's backbar costs. By accurately setting up your product groups, you create a structured framework to calculate the exact cost per use of color, lightener, and foils, preventing hidden product expenses from silently eroding your profits.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Navigate to the Menu, select Services, and then click on Professional Products.
Click on the Product Groups button. This will open a pop-up window.
Type the name of your product brand or group into the provided field.
Click the Add Group button.
Your new product brand will immediately save and appear in the list at the bottom of the pop-up window. (Note: From this list below, you can click to edit the name of any group, which will autosave, or click the trash can to delete a group).
Reading Your Results
The Professional Products page will now display your newly created product brand or group, allowing you to neatly organize your individual professional products and assign them to specific services for accurate cost tracking.
Applying This Data
A well-organized list of professional product brands ensures you can precisely track your chemical and backbar expenses. This clarity empowers you to confidently make a necessary price adjustment to protect your margins against rising product costs.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Will this sync with my supplier inventory?
A: Insightful Sums operates entirely independently to replace complex spreadsheets. It is a standalone pricing tool and does not integrate with booking, supplier, or accounting software.
Q: Do I need to create a product group before adding individual professional products?
A: Yes. Setting up your product brands or groups first ensures your individual professional products have a logical home, making it easier to attach them to your services for accurate overhead calculations.
Q: What happens if I delete a product group?
A: Just like service categories, if you delete a product group from the pop-up window, any individual products saved under that group may become disorganized or hidden. Always assign your products to a new, active group before deleting their old one.
