Tracking the exact cost of backbar supplies and chemicals, from color tubes to lash lift kits, is critical to stopping profit leaks. By adding your professional products and their specific yields into the calculator, you instantly reveal the exact cost per use, ensuring your service margins are based on financial reality rather than guesswork.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Menu, select Services, and then click on Professional Products.

  2. Click on the Add Product button. A pop-up window will appear.

  3. Select the category (product brand or group) that your professional product belongs to.

  4. Enter the professional product's name.

  5. Enter the total purchase price (cost) of the professional product.

  6. Enter the total number of uses you get from this product (e.g., if a single tube of hair color lasts for 2 services, enter 2. If a box of 60 lash lift solutions completes 120 services, enter 120).

  7. Click the Add Product button to create the professional product.

Reading Your Results

Insightful Sums will automatically divide the purchase price by your entered number of uses to calculate the exact cost per use, which you can now attach directly to your service list to track exact overheads.

Applying This Data

Knowing the exact cost per use of every chemical and backbar item empowers you to confidently make a necessary price adjustment, ensuring your service prices cover the real cost of your professional products and protect your margins.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How do I figure out the "number of uses" for a product?

A: Determine how many individual client services you can perform with one purchased unit. For example, if a single tube of color covers two root retouches, enter 2. If a bulk salon shampoo bottle covers 100 washes, enter 100.

Q: Does the software calculate the cost per use for me?

A: Yes. Once you enter the total purchase price and the total number of uses, Insightful Sums automatically does the math. It divides the price by the uses to generate the exact cost per use for your service profitability calculations.
